Entering the San Jacinto Mountains

Desert Camp before the San Jacinto Mountains

My feet are touching the trail. There is no room for a tent here. It's wonderful sleeping under the stars. I cook dinner and breakfast without getting my legs out of my sleeping bag.

The Desert is Beautiful, but Hot

I hike as much as possible when it's cooler. I get up at 4:00 AM and am on the trail before first light. I setup camp just before it gets completely dark.

Rod with His Golden Parachute

Mountaineering gives its president a Golden Parachute! It protects him from the heat.

The Hot Desert Trail

The 101.4 degree temperatures were brutal.
